Green Turtle Cay is getting a new Community Center! This space will host Community Connection’s classes, community meetings, weddings, and other events, providing a dedicated venue for gatherings and celebrations.
The property, located across from Two Shorty’s and formerly the Bethany Church and Junkanoo shed, was purchased by the Arbitrary Hill Foundation to build the center. The foundation, currently undergoing Bahamian review to become a Bahamian Foundation, will manage the center. The majority of its board members are Green Turtle Cay residents, ensuring that the center remains a true community asset, directed by locals.
Demolition of the old structure has been completed, and preliminary design plans are under review. The next steps include obtaining necessary approvals, followed by construction.
Fundraising efforts for construction are now underway. The Arbitrary Hill Foundation has partnered with the Abaco Strong Foundation to accept charitable donations, allowing U.S. donors to receive tax deductions. Local fundraising events will begin in November, and Mr. Ron Lavarity has volunteered to oversee the project to completion.
