An Interview with Seanna Dames — Clerk in the Administrator’s Office

On February 27, 2024, grade 5-6 students from the after-school Community Connections Reporting class interviewed Seanna Dames. She spoke to the class about her job and the incredible opportunity she had to represent the youth of The Bahamas on a trip to Europe. She shared photos from that trip and answered the students’ questions about her experience.

Meet Ms. Seanna Dames
Ms. Seanna Dames was born in Florida, USA, and now lives in Green Turtle Cay. She is a clerk in the Administrator’s Office, where she assists various government agencies, including the Ministry of Works and the Port Department. She also helps distribute applications for different services.
Ms. Seanna enjoys traveling and has visited about ten countries around the world.
Her Favorite Place: Europe
Ms. Seanna’s favorite place she has traveled to is Europe, where she spent three weeks visiting England, France, and Scotland.
In England, she stayed in a hostel and visited Stonehenge, a famous monument made up of large stones.
She traveled from England to France through the Chunnel, a tunnel that runs underwater.
In France, she saw the Eiffel Tower.
During her time in the UK, she had the incredible opportunity to meet UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and Sir Arthur Foulkes, who later became the Governor-General of The Bahamas, along with other notable figures.
A Special Trip with a Purpose
Ms. Seanna was 12 years old and in grade 7 or 8 when she went on this trip. She was part of a group of young people from Commonwealth countries, working together to create a Children’s Bill of Rights for children across the Commonwealth. This Bill of Rights was designed to protect children's rights and improve their lives.
Although she was not one of the original three students selected to represent The Bahamas, she was the only student from Green Turtle Cay who got to attend. When asked how she was chosen, she said:
“Keep up good grades and don’t get in trouble.”
Life Lessons from Ms. Seanna
Ms. Seanna shared the most important lessons she learned from her experiences:
Pay attention and listen to your elders.
Don’t be afraid to travel.
Be respectful of others.
Fun Fact: Is Ms. Seanna Ever Bored?
When asked what she does when she’s bored, she responded:
“I am never bored; I’m busy-busy. But I do love crosswords!”
